It has been a great 2 1/2 weeks. It all began by traveling to Messiah College in Grantham, PA for the Brethren in Christ General Conference. It was the first BIC conference Heather and I had been to since coming into the denomination. What a great experience. It was great to meet so many new people, share in some wonderful worship and prayer, listen to some very challenging and encouraging voices, and to hear the vision of the BIC as we head into the next decade.
With an emphasis on our core values (Experiencing God's Love and Grace; Believing the Bible; Worshiping God; Following Jesus; Belonging to the Community of Faith; Witnessing to the World; Serving Compassionately; Pursuing Peace; Living Simply; Relying on God)the leadership presented the vision for the next 10 years entitled "Transformation 2020." The essence of the vision is caught in the statement, "...the Brethren in Christ in North America aspire to be an expanding mosaic of churches, all seeing lives transformed by Jesus Christ."
We understand that unless we are being transformed by the power of God and it is changing the way we live and choices we make; unless God's priorities are our priorities, we are missing the point of being followers of Jesus Christ.
It was a very good conference full of great ideas and vision, now it is the responsibility of all those in leadership of the churches to carry that vision home and live it out. Which is what we hope to do here at Zion BIC church over the coming years. To see lives transformed, community lived out and joyful service to those around us and around the world.
Following conference, my family was able to take a couple weeks of vacation seeing friends and family and getting some much needed time away. It was a great vacation! But, all things come to an end and I'm ready to be back to work and doing what I believe I'm called to be doing at this point of my life.
So, here we go!
